Fashion
For my first foray into fashion, Marie Claire magazine gives me nine dresses from the Yves St Laurent Winter collection – no less! – as many top international models, two hairdressers, two make-up artists and two stylists. The editor of the magazine and the fashion director are also present. I take everyone to the Géode, where I had done my recce. But not quite knowing where to start…
I’m not happy with my shoot when I edit my colour slides: the photos are too static – frozen rather than “suspended”. On a contact sheet in black and white of the images I had taken “behind-the-scenes”, I discover a view of the models at rest, languid, just before they are due to take their places and pose. My camera, loaded with colour film and mounted on a tripod, is visible in the foreground. So is a stylist adding the final touches to a dress. Voilà! My picture.
I propose it to the magazine – to replace the photo in colour. But needless to say, it is the latter that is chosen. Regardless, my choice goes into the folio of my best photos.
